Overview

“Our journal has 200 articles online and Google Scholar shows eleven of them, two with the wrong authors.” Google Scholar is where most researchers start, and it has no submission form: its crawler visits article pages, reads Highwire Press or Dublin Core meta tags, checks that the full-text PDF is reachable, and decides what to index. If your platform’s tags are missing, wrong or blocked, your articles are invisible or garbled.

The journal’s editors keep final authority over reviewer selection, editorial assessment and acceptance. NeucitePress runs the technical audit and the platform fixes; content decisions remain the journal’s.

Important Limitations

• This is a technical inclusion audit, not an application. Google Scholar has no application process and decides independently what it indexes and when. NeucitePress makes your pages meet the published guidelines; it cannot sell inclusion or set Google’s timeline.
• Articles must be web-accessible on a site NeucitePress can modify or that your web team can modify from our findings.
• Scholar’s coverage of any single article can change; the report tells you how to keep future issues compliant.

Common Questions

Can you submit our journal to Google Scholar?
There is nothing to submit. Scholar finds and indexes pages that meet its technical guidelines; that is what this audit achieves.

Our platform is OJS. Is it not already compatible?
OJS emits the right tags by default, but custom themes, misconfigured plugins, blocked PDFs or robots rules frequently break them. That is the most common finding.

Does this include a Google Scholar journal profile?
Scholar does not offer journal profiles; author profiles are created by authors themselves. We include guidance for authors on claiming their profiles.
