Overview

You are ready to change platform, but the archive is the problem: years of issues, PDFs scattered across servers, DOIs that must keep resolving, and Google Scholar links that cannot break. Journal Migration & Archive Transfer moves all of it, in order, and proves it did.

This is for journals moving from a commercial platform, a WordPress or static site, an older OJS instance, or a departmental server, to a current OJS installation, whether hosted by NeucitePress or by you.

What’s Included

• Source audit — inventory of issues, articles, files, authors, metadata fields, DOIs and users on the current platform
• Back-issue migration — all issues and articles with full-text files (PDF, HTML and supplementary material)
• Metadata migration — titles, abstracts, authors and affiliations, ORCID iDs where present, keywords, references, dates, licenses and section assignments
• DOI migration — DOIs carried over and Crossref metadata updated so every DOI resolves to the new location
• User migration — editors, reviewers and authors with roles preserved, where the source allows
• Redirects — mapping from old article and issue URLs to new ones, so search engine and citation links continue to work
• Verification report — counts and spot checks comparing source and destination, signed off before go-live

How It Works

1. We audit the source and confirm the scope and a fixed quote.
2. We build the migration on a staging instance and run it end to end.
3. You review the staging site; we fix any mapping issues.
4. Final migration, DOI updates, redirects and go-live. Pricing is per journal, scaled by article count and source complexity. Free with any annual NeucitePress hosting plan.

Platform Independence

OJS is free, open-source software. After migration, your content lives in a standard OJS database with native XML export available, on your own domain and DOI prefix. Leave any time with everything.

Important Limitations

• Source quality — we migrate what exists. Missing PDFs, incomplete metadata or inconsistent author records on the old platform are reported, not invented; cleanup can be quoted separately.
• Source access — some commercial platforms limit export. We work from whatever export, API or backup you can obtain; the audit identifies any gaps.
• Redirects — server-side redirects require access to the old domain or host. If the old site will be switched off without redirect capability, we advise on alternatives.
• External fees — Crossref metadata updates are included in labor; any Crossref or third-party charges are separate and passed through at cost.

Common Questions

Will our DOIs keep working?
Yes. DOIs are permanent identifiers; we update the Crossref record so each one resolves to the new article page.

Can you migrate from a platform that has no export?
Usually. We can harvest from public pages and metadata feeds when no export exists; the audit will tell you how complete that will be.

How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the archive and the source platform. The audit gives you a schedule before you commit.
