Overview

Accepted papers are sitting in the queue because there is nobody to typeset them, and the volunteer who used to do it in a word processor has stepped back. You need articles that look like they belong in an indexed journal, in the formats indexes and readers expect, without hiring a production department. Article Typesetting turns each accepted manuscript into publication-ready files.

This is for journals of any size on Open Journal Systems (OJS), the free, open-source software from PKP, or on any other platform. Copyediting is not included in this service; if you also need language editing, see Copyediting + Typesetting.

What’s Included

• Typesetting and layout — your journal’s template applied (or a template created on first use), running heads, article metadata, DOI and license lines, figure and table placement, footnotes and appendices
• Reference checking — references formatted to your house style and checked for completeness; DOIs added where they can be found
• Output formats — typeset PDF, HTML galley, JATS XML, and an accessible PDF that is tagged, has reading order and alternative text, and passes standard checkers
• Proof cycle — author proof with a queries list, one round of corrections, and a final check before delivery
• Delivery — files uploaded to your OJS instance as galleys, or delivered as a package

How It Works

1. You send the accepted manuscript, figures and any supplementary files, and tell us the target issue.
2. We typeset, check references, and produce all formats.
3. Author proof goes out; corrections come back; we finalize.
4. Files are delivered or loaded into OJS. Pricing is per 500 words of manuscript text, plus a charge per figure and per table. Equations are typeset at no extra cost. There is no minimum order and no contract.

Important Limitations

• Typesetting only — we lay out and check what you send. Language editing, rewriting and fact-checking are separate services.
• Figure quality — figures are placed as supplied. Redrawing, resolution improvement or color correction is available separately.
• Correction rounds — one round of author corrections is included; extensive changes after proof, or additional rounds, are charged.
• External fees — none. DOI registration is your journal’s own Crossref arrangement; we insert the DOI you provide.

How is the word count measured?
From the manuscript text you send, including references and captions, rounded up to the next 500 words.

Can you match our existing layout?
Yes. Send a recent published article and we build the template from it. A new design can be quoted if you want a fresh look.

What is the turnaround?
It depends on length and figure count; we confirm a date when we receive the manuscript. Fixed-deadline work is available through the Backlog Clearance Project.
