We applied once, were rejected for editorial board and citation reasons, and now we cannot reapply until the embargo ends.” Scopus evaluates journals through its Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB) against published criteria covering journal policy, content quality, editorial board standing, publishing regularity, online availability and citation profile. It is the most requested indexing goal NeucitePress sees, and the most common place journals apply too early.

What Stays With Your Editors
The journal’s editors keep final authority over reviewer selection, editorial assessment and acceptance, and the journal adopts the policy and board changes recommended. NeucitePress runs the assessment, preparation and submission process.
Important Limitations
- Inclusion is decided solely by Scopus (Elsevier’s CSAB). NeucitePress prepares, remediates and submits; it cannot sell inclusion.
- The fee covers assessment, preparation and submission regardless of the CSAB decision.
- If the assessment shows the journal does not yet meet the criteria, NeucitePress recommends deferring and gives you a dated roadmap rather than submitting an application likely to fail; Scopus imposes a waiting period before a rejected title can be resubmitted.
- NeucitePress has no relationship with or influence at Elsevier; the value is expertise in the published criteria.

Common Questions
How long does CSAB take?
Typically 6–12 months; Scopus reviews in batches, so timing depends on when the title enters the queue.
Should we apply to DOAJ first?
If the journal is open access, usually yes; its requirements are reachable sooner and a DOAJ listing is a recognized signal of good practice. Neither database’s decision binds the other.
What happens after acceptance?
Scopus begins indexing content over the following weeks; CiteScore metrics appear after a full calendar year of indexed content.
